Presentation: ctl - Meeting Photography

The meeting “Culture through the lens” proposes the photography from a documental perspective as an instrument for discovering, registering and presenting realities with the final purpose of a cultural mediation. The central matter is: “The role of both the photography and the photographer in culture mediation”. The objective is to create moments to reflect about the role of the photographer as cultural mediator and the photography as discourse, through direct contact and opinion exchange between persons who develop visual research through photography.

During the meeting, there will take place presentations and lectures offered by the invited experts to a public audience and the workshop “Perspectives for a cultural mediation” offered to a restricted audience, including a round table and the presentation and review of photographic portfolios.

Private Photoreview, Photographers without frontiers and the artist Olivo Barbieri will conform the meeting of the October 23rd, 2007, for a public audience. The participation of Olivo Barbieri will be moderated by Monica Demattè, curator and expert of contemporary art.

The purpose of the workshop is to plan and develop a photographic research along with the invited experts: Olivo Barbieri, Massimiliano Fusari, Rhodri Jones, Li Lang, Filippo Romano, Klavdij Sluban, Christopher Taylor e Luo Yongjin. It is possible to pre-register until October 8th, 2007, in order to participate. A total of 12 participants will be selected. The results of the workshop will conform a collective exhibition to be presented in 2008.

Culture through the lens: ctl - Meeting Photography, coordinated by the photographer Giovanni Melillo, is supported by FilmWork productions of Trento, and assisted by the curator and expert of contemporary art Monica Demattè.
